I'll put my hand up to being rich enough not to care about the increased rate of depreciation, although when you retain a car for 17 years, there's pretty much no residual value anyway at that point.
I do object to being accused of virtue signalling. Our car died, we needed another. It was the right choice for us. I have no dog in this fight.
