"IMO, rather than new technologies powering existing modes of transport,
technology may transform the existing modes of transport entirely into
something completely different."
that's a very good point ---------------------- we often argue about the trees - forgetting that we are in a forest
we should never forget the objective of transport --------------- what is the objective?
to move stuff from A to B
doesn't matter what it is ------------- people, the kids, the dog, the groceries, the water in the pipe, the gas in the pipe ------
everything and anything we move about -
so far - in our infinite wisdom we've done it by a variety of means ------- ALL with known physical technologies -
walking
wheels
pipes
wings
floating bits
etc etc
what if we discover how to teleport?
oh - not possible?????????? - well, lets recognise that only this last week - we heard that all of a sudden - we've found that theres an entirely new force in nature that no one told us about before -------
wow ------------ so - next week - we might find another one - and, we might find how to use any of those forces ---------- which - overnight - some bright smart arse wise cracking nerd might work out how to harness - and - bingo
no more need for wheels, hulls, wagons, walking
we are - and, we should never forget - in the mere beginnings of a knowledge boom that will discover every ??? year or every month - more than we have ever discovered in history ---------- some weirdo multiple like that
who knows what's coming ---------- because when you don't know all the forces that are around you ----------- you have a LOT to learn
