The number of electric cars in 2015 is growing at a fast pace, but how does the technology compare to the combustion engine market?
Thanks to national incentive schemes by various governments, the number of electric cars in 2015 has increased dramatically in some parts, but continues to lag behind in others, where either through lack of interest or encouragement electric cars remain a niche market.
In 2014, for example, Europe saw a 37pc increase in the number of electric cars sold compared with 2013.
In Ireland that year, 256 cars were sold, which doesn’t put us at the forefront of electric vehicle (EV) ownership.
Arguably, one of the biggest changes in the EV industry came with the introduction of Elon Musk and Tesla, which has managed to produce a range of cars that defy criticisms of EVs as being slow and lacking in range.
So, with Tesla’s relatively newfound injection of confidence in the market, who can we say are some of the world leaders when it comes to EVs, and have we actually achieved something in 2015?
