    The problem with your scenario, SS, is you're looking at the problem in the Oz perspective - a light population in a large country. But go OS to any number of countries and the air is toxic; the air we breathe to stay alive. The C02 argument aside, if we don't stop pumping a gazillion tones of shit into the atmosphere via toxic fossil fuels, then millions of people will die prematurely at an exponential rate. EV's and renewables won't solve all the problems, but they will go a long way towards ameliorating the risks. Over the last circa 200/300 years (a blink in time) we humans have done a remarkably good job of fouling the air, water and destroying natural habitats like a veritable plague beast, so change our ways and repair it we must - or die. It's that simple.
