Living in Oz thus whatever policies are made here will affect those living here - particularly in the hip pocket. People here will pay a huge price for something that the population base on the whole compared to more populous nations will not stop any cyclones or flooding or heat or cool waves irrespective of local 'green' policies.
I agree of course that many of the ills faced by humanity is self inflicted - pollution, consumption, greed, poisons produced and let loose, land clearing thus destruction or at least a reduction of the ability for oxygen conversion.
The only upside if you can call it that of EV's is that there may be less on the roads simply because of the cost of ownership. To think that it is cheaper than a comparable ICE vehicle is just nonsense if one looks at a Tesla in the current 2nd hand market . Any subsidies if offered will be borne as usual by the taxpayer.
You mentioned foul air and water and destruction of habitats - well known traits of humans - the efforts of man to transition to this 'miracle cure' will add more to those adverse traits - not less.
To combat more pollution issues one needs to curb consumption, roll back on single use throwaway mentality and look after the environment by using less pollutants and less deforestation but more plantings. Drove past a solar farm yesterday with my ICE vehicle and all one could see is acres of a manmade installation that will in a decade or so add to the pile of ever increasing rubbish (along with the vehicle driven, no doubt) - but there was not a tree or bush anywhere close by and yet the seed of greed has been planted some time ago and has grown substantially and regularly gets tended to and fed.
