Rambleon. I am well aware that by selling my stocks before the ex date that I will not get the dividend. I sometimes, if I see an opportunity, such as the recent drop in the market will purchase a stock to trade coming up to a dividend announcement, if I can get it cheap enough, and get a hopefully greater return by way of capital which well exceeds the expected amount of the dividend together with the expected value of the franking credit. That way I still have capital to repeat the procedure. I only do this on reasonably reliable stocks and don't have to worry about the franking rules. I actually sold WBC this time for 21.77. I do have a core portfolio. I could probably have gotten more if I had held on but I see this market as very unreliable and more of a trading market. E1
