On the other hand people are expecting the share price to fall a lot more after the dividend ex date. Based on previous cycles.
So your strategy might be sound if you buy at lower prices. Brokerage is often negligible made up for by a lower purchase price.
But it is a risk of course. But people are expecting the price to fall more than the dividend amount after it goes ex.
