I have no doubt that the increased awareness to driving during these danger periods is keeping the accident rate down. If it was expressed in terms relative to the volume of traffic it may even appear safer during holidays, but the last thing we want to do is let the idi0t motorists think that. I don't have stats at hand, but I seem to remember that decades ago holiday periods did see higher accident rates.
