''Is he saying that for the rest of his life he will still be paying $460 a week in rent?? Generally, landlords increase rents annually to offset costs such as increases in interest rates.''

The guy has given well rounded arguements and im pretty sure he is aware that the reader, using common sense, would know that historically rental growth tracks wages and inflation. Rarely will you see someone having to downgrade on a rental when they have kept the same job and nothing of severe financial consequence has occurred in their lives. On his website he states that his wife works in a well paid job.

'Generally, landlords increase rents annually to offset costs such as increases in interest rates.'

hence why he is spot on in suggesting that rentals should be discouraged from 'amateurs' and instead the role should shift to larger companies or larger groups, that dont sweat and panic when rates rise by a 'massively huge' 25 basis points. It gives renters more stability and certainty about their landlord. Some renters are more worried that their 18-20 yr old wanna-be-buffett, no savings landlords can afford their payments on the mortgage than the landlord is worried about getting paid rent. I think over time, as policies shift, more laws will favour renters over landlords.
