RECENT re-sampling of a previous explorer's samples by Shannon Resources has yielded "excellent" nickel results from its Kurnalpi property in Western Australia with confirmation that a nickel resource is present.
Speaking to MiningNews.net today, company secretary Bevan Jaggard said Shannon re-sampled 30 holes so far over an area about 300m apart, with samples taken from the northern area of the property where previous drilling was concentrated.
Nickel results from re-sampling include 27m at 0.73% from 24m including 2m at 1.62% from 40m and 9m at 0.9% nickel from 4m including 3m at 1.4% from 8m.
"We'll do some drilling in between cause they're not very deep holes, I think the deepest [drill hole] was about 80-200m and a lot were less than that," Jaggard said.
He said Shannon would start a 2000m reverse circulation drilling and a 1000m diamond drilling program for nickel next month, with the program to concentrate on the northern area where samples were taken from.
"If results are up to expectations we'll keep the rig going."
So far, the company has drilled for gold at its Brilliant prospect within the Kurnalpi property, with results including an intersection of 54m at 2.88 grams per tonne gold including 6m at 9.85gpt gold.
Shares in Shannon shed 2c to close at 60c yesterday on the back of the news and were unchanged in morning trading today.
