A strong national carrier? Debatable whether Qantas fits the bill of that definition anymore.
It's all well and good if you want to protect national interests. If that's your rebuttal then put it under Government control and ownership, not dip into taxpayer pockets every time the free market operates the way it should.
Poor fiscal management as is the case with excessive buy back ratios to pay yourselves hefty premiums based on SP performance, at the expense of Gov coffers... should be held to account but isn't.
