I'm not saying they didn't do something illegal in the dying hours of their control of the company, but up to that point they were doing everything to keep it going - JC paid back his loan to the company, obviously to keep the lights on. Once they knew they were rolled by the note holders then they looked after themselves for sure.
We all knew that administration is most likely = 0 value, so I too was hoping they could scrape through. Anyway, all academic now - just give us our tax loss and let's move on.
