It was never really an Australian invention or company - there is a growing trend for tech companies to backdoor list themselves in through small listed mining companies on the ASX that have exhausted their prospects and are essentially worthless. Just buy up the company for peanuts, clear out the BOD and register, rename it, change the listing code and change what the company is all about. Saves a lot of the hassle involved in trying to float a new company in the US and with capital being global it doesn't really matter where a company is listed these days.
