Comparison of Cooper and Pedirka Basin

Are there are many similarities with these two basin formations although they are separated by about 400 km?
No connection? Wrong -they are both part of Eromanga Basin which is extends from the Amadeus Basin (Alice Springs) into the NSW border near Moomba (600km)
Beneath the ground common sets of strata layers that were FORMED during the same periods of geological time link each other. They are BOTH part of the EROMANGA Basin and connected by 600 km of common layers.

    COOPER BASIN
Exploration and development starts 1969 onwards
11th July 08 - 100th discovery in Cooper Basin announced

An important milestone in the Cooper Basin was announced recently with the 100th commercial oil field reported.
Field #100 is the Santos Ltd Hobbes 1 oil field, a discovery based on assessments by the Primary Industries and Resources S.A. Petroleum and Geothermal Group.

The number of new oil and gas pools discovered in the Cooper Basin highlights the continued success of mineral exploration and development in the State’s Far North and confirms that South Australia’s Cooper Basin remains a highly rated international exploration investment destination.

Resources Development Minister Paul Holloway says drilling results during the past few years show a relatively high success rate from exploration wells drilled in the area.

“Joint ventures operated by Beach Petroleum, Stuart Petroleum and Victoria Petroleum have also joined Santos and its joint ventures as oil producers in the South Australian Cooper Basin region,” the Minister says.
This represents about 500 drillings of which now 100 or so are considered commercial. WOW! Maybe 400 or so were duds!

PEDIRKA BASIN - exploration started in 60's and 70's. About 6-8 wells recorded as explored. Maybe 1-2 showed something but drilling techniques and seismics were probably inadequate to find the targets. Todays methods are far more superior. No further drilling due to remoteness and price of OIL and GAS. Exploration given up in Pedirka for up to 30 years. During this time Cooper excels and develops into mega success.

So what are some comparisons and differences.
    1. Cooper Basin has a many different companies all sharing SUCCESS in COOPER.
    2. Cooper Basin has 100 producing well created over 38 years of exploration.
    3. Rock ages and types are similar/same and/or continuous formations joining the 500km distances seperated underground.
    4. So the COAL, OIL and Gases formed probably are found ALL along the same aged rocks from AMADEUS (near Alice Springs) to NSW border where cross section mappings show them to run. "Some Mega Structures- WOW!"
    5. CTP starts the first of probably many drillings if they are sucessful at BLAMORE in July 2008.
    6. CTP is the ONLY holder of all the majority of PEDIRKA Basin. No one else to share with. What they strike immediately refects on CTP being the SOLE BENEFICIARY for Gain. Another WOW!

Perhaps this week or next the new kid on the block becomes the mega star of the year/decade.
    Wait and see?
    Who that? CTP of course.
    Exciting times ahead. DYOR.
