You're quite right. You can only apply for a trading halt for two days which has expired.
It is now proper to contact the ASX for voluntary suspension (ASX listing rules, Guidance Note 16 section 4.3). The section basically says that if you are not going to be in a position to make the announcement after a trading halt expires then you should apply for a voluntary suspension.
