    Hey bevter,

that wont be a popular thread heading as Exergen's CHTD tech is a direct competitor of esi's Coldry. Your question may get a more knowledgable response on the mnm thread as this company has recently signed a Joint Venture with Exergen and some mnm regular posters are well read on their technology.

Exergen is a private company so they have no need for fluff and bubble to attract share holders. If you are interested in their CHTD process just google it and you will find all the info you need. Unlike esi, Exergen hasn't announced that they will apply for the $90m grant, but considering it's a private company there is no need or obligation to announce such an action.

"CHTD coal is a transformed coal giving a cleaner burning product with lower emissions than its originally mined feed coal. The CHTD process “decarboxylates” high moisture coals, changing their molecular structure and liberating inherently bound water in the process. Water is separated in the liquid state, eliminating the need to evaporate the water typical in competing technologies. Recovered water becomes available for agricultural or industrial use.

Exergen expects that its CHTD coal would be used in state of the art power stations of the type that can already meet new emissions standards for future power stations announced by the Victorian Government. Exergen is also working towards demonstrating the use of CHTD fuel in a Direct Injection Coal Engine (DICE), which may match gas-fired power station emissions and also enable future CO2 capture."

If this doesn't help to answer your friends questions, you could always give Ted Baillieu a call as he's been talking about Exergen in the media a lot lately and seems to be in the know.

    Hope this helps, cheers.
