URANIUM PRICE BUBBLE

Mining companies say high global uranium prices will not last.

Rio Tinto CEO Leigh Clifford says uranium values will remain higher than historic levels of about $US15 per pound, but he believes the metal's stellar price rise over the first quarter is something of a bubble.

He points out that the number of operating nuclear power plants around the world will not really increase until 2016, while miners have been ramping up production and increasing supply immediately.

The Australian miner's claims concur with those of US-based International Nuclear which says analysts' predictions centre on $US30 per pound.
