there lies the problem some people are to thick to look at the whole problem, so they just look at one isolated incident
Saddam was put in place in Iraq with the help of the US.
He was supported by the US during the Iran Iraq war because the US did not want to see fundamentalists from Iran controlling the ME (and the oil)
They at the same time hedged their bets with Israel providing support to Iran.
Kuwait also support Iraq during the war with Iran for the same reasons the US did. Kuwait in this support promised to fund Iraq in the war
Kuwait backed out of the promised funding after the war leaving Iraq carry very large debts and were drilling into Iraq's oil fields on the boarder of Kuwait and Iraq, these are the reasons Iraq invaded Kuwait
The US were aware of the pending invasion prior to it happening and told Iraq they had no intention of becoming involved.
That was until the US's mates the Saudis (were the 9/11 terrorist happen to come from) started to get nervous and concerned over Iraq's actions, concerns that lead the US to get involved.
