It was a jam-packed Saturday for Berkshire Hathaway shareholders, starting the day with the annual meeting at the Century Link Center and ending with shopping and a picnic at Nebraska Furniture Mart.
For many, the highlight of Berkshire weekend is hearing Warren Buffett's wisdom. The question and answer session with Buffett and Charlie Munger started at 9:30 a.m. and ended around 4:45 p.m.
"I just really enjoy hearing Warren Buffett, I mean just hearing him talk and just his thoughts, what he's thinking about," said Alex Salinas of California. "Honest answers to these questions."
"You learn a lot," said Gayle Fandry of Hastings."I went to the meeting and it was very informative."
After the shareholders meeting came the shopping. Many investors snagged sales at Nebraska Furniture Mart. The store offered discounts to shareholders throughout the week.
"We went to the annual meeting this morning, but the shopping excursion is more fun than the annual meeting," joked Nancy Williams of Omaha.
Nebraska Furniture Mart estimates more than 40,000 investors will shop there this weekend, taking advantage of the sales.
"We just bought a new clothes washer, but were hoping also to see bigger discounts and more opportunities to save money," said Craig Klocke of Iowa.
"It's our job to really reassure them that their investment in our parent company, Berkshire Hathaway, is a good one," said Nebraska Furniture Mart Omaha store director Scott Baker.
From televisions to washing machines, some wait all year to buy big purchases.
"The prices were so good with the discount that we also bought a dryer, so we are replacing almost all of the appliances in the house today," Williams said.
After the shopping came the socializing. Hundreds of shareholders stopping by the furniture store's annual picnic, which featured local food trucks and entertainment.
"Well, I had a good time last night, so I'm sure I'll have a good time tonight," joked Fandry.
"I love Omaha, it's really nice here," said Salinas. "It's my second time being here and I've really enjoyed my time."
