    Hi Infose,
    If you mean richer in AUD then I'd agree with you.
    But if you compare the suburban family, 3 kids, of the 1960s
    who owned their home on a quarter acre block (then worth $25K)
    & the Station Wagon (then worth $4K) and the missus a
    full time housewife

    and now:

    The average Aussie family with 3 kids a house worth $800K
    and a 4x4 worth $50K and both parents flat strap working;

    IMO its much of a muchness with the 1960s being arguably the better
    lifestyle...eh?

    A million AUD in the 1960s would be equivalent to $15 million now at least
    going by relative purchasing power

    My first management job in the early 70s was $45K p/a + car/petrol/phone
    +$5K productivity bonus. The same job today is $220K p/a + a novated car lease,
    + tax effective extras . A decent suburban house package then was $35K &the car was $5.5K

    With astute saving it was possible to own both in 5 years!

    Nowadays 30 years mortgages for a twenty something is the norm
