Hi Infose, If you mean richer in AUD then I'd agree with you. But if you compare the suburban family, 3 kids, of the 1960s who owned their home on a quarter acre block (then worth $25K) & the Station Wagon (then worth $4K) and the missus a full time housewife and now: The average Aussie family with 3 kids a house worth $800K and a 4x4 worth $50K and both parents flat strap working; IMO its much of a muchness with the 1960s being arguably the better lifestyle...eh? A million AUD in the 1960s would be equivalent to $15 million now at least going by relative purchasing power My first management job in the early 70s was $45K p/a + car/petrol/phone +$5K productivity bonus. The same job today is $220K p/a + a novated car lease, + tax effective extras . A decent suburban house package then was $35K &the car was $5.5K With astute saving it was possible to own both in 5 years! Nowadays 30 years mortgages for a twenty something is the norm

Wow I am impressed with your wage in the early 70's. 45k plus car petrol and a bonus twice the minimum wage With you extra benefits you were making probably making 10 times the average wage. That would be equivalent to 800k now. What company were you working for? The minimum wage in the early 70's was about 2,500 a year.
