Thacker Pass has the highest grade lithium deposit amongst the U.S's 10 or so clay lithium projects. It's the most advanced and Jon Evans the CEO thinks even the type of clay there is superior to any other deposit in the U.S.
Thacker Pass capex is now $2.93b for Phase 1 30ktpa / $97,000 capex per tonne. Opex $7200.
Prairie by comparison is $48,000 capex per tonne. opex $5425.
If those are the numbers out of the best clay project in the U.S what does it say about Rhyolite Ridge, McDermitt, Clayton Valley, Tonopah, TLC, Bradda Head and Big Sandy? Surely it can only be worse for those?
I see it as a good thing. If all the clay players fold it's far less North American supply. Prairie is sitting sweet either way.
If there is such a large disparity in capex what would ever be the point of directing capital toward Big Sandy when it's half the cost in SK?
