A lot of water goes under the bridge between finding something and actually digging it up and selling it. A scoping study is basically the back of an envelope to see if money should be spent on a PFS. A PFS is to determine whether money should be spent on a DFS. A DFS is not the be all and end all or gospel. It is designed to approach financiers and get a commitment to invest. It is designed to say it can be done and be profitable. It also has a large range of probability. Once a commitment for finance is gained then the real engineering is done. The costs and returns are firmed up but still a bit rubbery.
Those that put their money up run through the figures and run their own figures with their own experts. So whether your opinion is right or wrong, the DFS has done its job which is to get an initial commitment of finance.
Your community focus good Samaritan rant is in the wrong place. If you think that the DFS is so wrong then go preach to the financiers and tell them that their advisors and experts have got it so wrong. The rest of us are just getting the whiff of money and plan to ride the bull to a point that we happy to jump off. We are big boys and girls. If we need being preached at, we will head off to church.
