Look if I am correct on this and my figures are correct? then a 20% reduction is stuff all compared to the saving they make, in fact it is a game changer, just add a few more dishes if you need the same output, but the cost would be heaps and heaps cheaper.
Just look at the brochure that they show on the Solar Systems website, it clearly shows a large 15 M dish and it also clearly shows a CPV collector as being .25m sq ,just how many 6cm by 6cm modules can you fit inside a .25m sq CPV collector?
The answer is of course 16.
I did the calculations for a 100 MW station using the older CPV collector which has the Spectro Labs cells @ $20 sq cm and also for a new CPV collector using the new high efficiency cells @$1 to $2 per sq cm, the difference in price for a 2000 dish plant is mind blowing for two reasons, the new cells are much cheaper per sq cm, but the new CPV collector uses a lot less 6 cm by 6 cm modules in the process as well, it only has 16 modules as against the older CPV collector which has 64 modules, each module has 32 solar cells.
At first I thought that Solar Systems had made a mistake, or were deliberately trying to fudge information, that was until it dawned on me that they were in fact only producing the new CPV collector now, that is my belief, I believe the new high efficiency cells are working and they must be working well for them to make this change, I also believe this is what they used at Nofa.
It is understandable that the output was 20% less, but the difference in cost would far outweigh any reduced output by a country mile.

We will know shortly, if I am wrong I will eat humble pie, but I expect the same from others if I am right, and MG should as well.
