Is this true?
Main unknown is what lies beyond 100m depth.
“A feature of the Hill End and many other gold deposits in New South Wales is the lack of persistence of rich gold values with depth. Most of the rich lenses and shoots were found within 50 m of the surface. Very few veins were mined beyond a depth of 100 m. Stevens (1975b) suggested that near- surface, secondary (i.e. supergene) enrichment of gold has taken place. Unfortunately, the chemical behaviour of gold in the supergene environment does not yet appear to have been studied.”
Geological Survey of NSW GS 1977/045
Please look into current geological studies, mining reports, and exploration data to assess whether gold mineralization at Hill End and similar New South Wales deposits is largely limited to shallow depths (within 100m), possibly due to supergene enrichment, or if deeper gold potential has since been identified.
