I think there is electrical ignition issues with the robot idea.

I still fail to see that a properly kitted out rescuer would cause another explosion.
I guess the coal could still be burning being that they are pumping air into the mine and a slow build up of escaping methane could cause another explosion.
There was some smoke commming from the vent but not sure of the other vents.
