UPDATE:
News conference this morning made it clear (but not stated of course) that chances of survival is very small.
There is combustion occurring in there, and gas levels are fluctuating significantly. Still no surety of safety for any rescuers going in from both poisonous gases (carbon monoxide) and potential explosion from methane.
To risk more lives at this point in time when I am pretty sure they believe there are no survivors would be foolhardy in the extreme.
The combustion will be producing more carbon momoxide in the prescence of limited oxygen and pouring more oxygen in there will increase combustion of course.
An impossible nightmarish scenario. Spare a thought for the people responsible for managing this on the ground - I wouldn't want their job for anything.
But that's nothing to what the families are going through :(
