An "improvised explosive device" is a usualy home made bomb...car bomb or roadside bomb. (the unfortunite stuff seen on TV).
Metal Storm won a contract today for 45 training kits or simulators....such that the US Marine Corp can train in a non real situation, using the Metal Storm device.
Lockheedmartin, it would seem compete here to supply governments with the same type of product.

Requisition link details provided by adder...was for 22 kits. So maybe a different contract award, announced by Metal Storm today (45 kits)...anyway they won the job.(nice if it was some sort of special, based on their unique techology.
It was only late Feb 2010 in their preliminary report...when the company gave a rundown of is current activities and projects.
They made reference, ... to a project to develop a proximity fused 40mm airburst grenade for the United States Marine Corps. Maybetoday is what Metal Storm was referring to.
