If your taxable income is $100k per annum, and make a $50K capital gain (after expenses) then your tax liability on the $50k would be whatever your marginal tax rate would be for that $50k. If you own through a trust the CGT payable is based on the marginal tax rate of the beneficiary person/entity.

This is all generally speaking, but really is something that depends on individual circumstances and it's important to get good advice based on individual circumstances.

The aussie CGT situation makes me feel fortunate to be a Kiwi EXR holder. As an investor as opposed to a trader here in NZ when the big day comes to cash up in the case of say EXR the gain [presently] is tax free. Our moronic leader is one of the not so good kiwi features.
I did escape CGT a few decades ago from a profitable withdrawl from and Aussie investment held by my trust as that had not disclosed trustees by some quirk so the money was transferred offshore Aussie to NZ.
