When I visited the great wall in China it was mid summer and packed with tourists. Apparently its huge but we all visited one small section like sardines. The steps are steep and you wouldn't want to fall off-the-wall. Its a long way down.
The old city walls of Xi'an are a better visit than the terracotta warriors nearby. 12km bike ride above the city. That and the night market. The warriors was a bit touristy.
