Hi Montoya,
Nice article and source.
The issues I have with DoE pointing to the Salton Sea are the following:
1) It hasnt yet even conducted a pilot plant - one is aimed to be ready at the end of the year
this would determine if lithium extraction is even possible and indeed commercially viable
2) Berkshire own part of the area - So is this getting the green light cause Buffet is behind the scenes?
3) If its hasnt yet reached pilot plant stage they have a long period of time before a PFS, DFS and environmental studies can outline if its green light.
Thus pointing the finger of wishful thinking...
4) The governments commitment to CO2 reductions timeframes cant wait on years of the above plus Environmental permitting.
IE it concludes that advanced stage projects like Ioneer that have already done 4 years of environmental scrutiny should be considered first, even above clay plays like Lithium Americas that put the horse before the cart when they received green light before environmental scrutiny - now facing lawsuits all over the shop.
The US Governments own report showed the BIG BLUE THUMB issue to mining in the USA - They spoke to mine industry experts who said it can take upwards of 10 years to get a project off the ground in the US. This makes long term private sector investment scarce and limits the number of projects that come online. The study revealed I think it was 1.63% of uranium projects came online over the review period.
I have looked at PLL when it was 10c, Ive looked at PLS when it was 50c and looked and FFX when it was still BGS on ASX. The hardrock plays are traditional but less environmentally friendly, FFX is in Mali and to me showed soveriegnty risk as an investor so I didnt want into that stock. INR is in USA, has low cost and low emissions extraction. Its also based in a mine friendly jurisdiction. Brines use a lot of water and spodumene produces more Co2.
What is USA waiting for??? Management are ready to go and the lithium market is on the move. This project makes sense environmentally even at 1 species "possibility" of extinction. LETS GO!!
