"Cabbies complaining about XR protestors. While the protestors would probably affect the cabbies more than many other people, I do see some irony in this."
I'll see your IRONY and raise you a few more IRONIES:
These people are protesting and demanding action from the government of a country which has, over the past 30 years, lead the world's developed nations by far in terms of emissions reductions, having reduced them by 36%, compared to Germany (22%), Finland (18%), Italy (16%), Sweden (12%), France (12%), Switzerland (12%), Belgium (10%), United States (1%), Netherlands (8% increase), Austria (15% increase), Japan (15% increase), Ireland (18% increase), Norway (29%)
Even in more recent periods, the UK has reduced emissions faster than any other country on the planet over the past two decades, by 31% (on a par with Denmark and only the basket cases of North Korea, Ukraine, and Syria have recorded fast rates of emission decline... for quite obvious reasons).
So one wonders what it is that this group actually wants the UK government to do to save the planet from cooking.
Especially when countries such as China, India, Korea, Indonesia, Mexico, Brazil, Turkey, Thailand, Taiwan, Malaysia, Egypt, Vietnam, Pakistan, Algeria, Nigeria, Bangladesh have, over the past two decades, added around seventy-five times more carbon to the environment that the amount the UK has reduced its carbon emissions.
It strikes me, then, that this is not merely an issue about the climate but more about some or other Dystopian agenda.
