BVR has been tested and the priority of fighter aircraft design and development ever since 1960s. F-15 has the highest kill for no loss ratio of any aircraft in history, nearly all those recorded kills are BVR. F-35 F-22 with AIM-120D will have range of 180km and able to detect aircraft 400 km away. Even further with AWACS support.
Thrust vectoring looks good for air shows but that's the limit of it's real world effectiveness in actual ACM. Maneuverability hasn't been a key factor of ACM since WW1 look at aircraft development of WW2 the power and speed only increased.
Energy is life in ACM, add stealth and it's a deadly combination for any other aircraft to combat against.
