ANUARY 28 2021 - 12:22PMWeather was not suitable for our latest fighter training flights over the ACT
Picture: Defence AustraliaThursday's proposed "diversionary exercises" featuring two of the RAAF's new F-35 fighter aircraft over Canberra has been postponed.
In a statement, the RAAF said "weather conditions at No. 3 Squadron's home base, RAAF Base Williamtown, are not conducive to achieving the desired outcomes from this aviation training activity".
"Diversion training is an essential part of pilot training on fast jet aircraft, and Air Force plans to reschedule this activity for a later date - to be advised in due course," the RAAF advised on Thursday morning.
At lunchtime on Thursday, Williamtown reported 20.7 degrees and a 50 per cent chance of rain, with winds gusting up to 50km/h.
The F-35A Lightning II fighters are built by Lockheed Martin and have a flying range of 2200kms. They have a maximum speed of 1960km/h.
The unit price per aircraft is around $89.2 million.
