I take your point about the hype and confidence a cash flow clunkers scheme would create around EV prospects but from a practical point of view I wonder how effective it would be. People driving clunkers are likely to be in the lowest earnings quartile. It would have to be one hell of an incentive to bridge the gap between their financial reality and the price of an EV.
I wonder if a tax incentive or rego concession might be more effective? I guess I’m suggesting that it would be more effective to encourage those who can actually afford an EV to make the switch rather than the bloke driving a $500 clunker.
I tend to agree with Cash that the EV revolution is already written and gov policy will only impact at the margins.
