I retired a week or two before my 50th birthday. I told a student, I was going to "retired". (Not in any way a brag, but I have never looked my age.) This student was a kid who never did his homework, worked as a salesman after school regularly, and had a big noisy mouth. I saw your name on my class list for next term, so I am leaving (wow, was that ever so exciting for me to be able to say). He laughed and laughed and laughed. No, that's not going to happen, says he. Just watch me, says I. Now I know Mr ABC is leaving, fair enough, but you won't be. Oh yes, I will!!!

And I did!! Happiest time I ever had was those two weeks or so, prior to my departure. The staff was gobsmacked. What will she do, they whispered among themselves. I can take office job, thinks I, like I had done in the past. Now that didn't turn out so well, coz too complicated with computers, different jobs to what they were in the past. However, I worked for another five years taking casual teaching across the privately run business colleges..... mainly young ladies who wanted Certificate of Administration which gave them typing, computer, and even shorthand skills. I was able to get plenty of work but on an hourly basis. I needed the income....... worked OK for me. The payout when I left I put on the stock market. from memory, that $30,000 disappeared with my choice of stocks.......all this well prior to LTR days, that is for sure.
