As the Government of the day here in Oz (led by a former Banker) denied the need for a Banking Royal commission - 26 times I believe...
The same people either in power or in opposition seem to be equally reluctant to support and protect whistle blowers - with respect to calling out 'bots' manipulation for example.
There was an article in the Sydney weekend Sun herald Business section page 3 citing "Short Sellers" aggressive tactics against locally listed firms.
I believe the links to the powerfully connected and big business, who really pulls the strings, are stymying any efforts on behalf of concerned individuals to report systematic rorts.
Social Media is good to spread awareness but change is difficult if not supported by the right people.
