If the FIRB let a Japanese Firm takeover Lynas while reject a Chinese takeover in a nutshell the Australian government has made enemies with China.
Australian government HAS TO BE CONSISTENT in that if they reject China they have to reject Japan also. Remember the majority of Australia wealth comes from China and if the Government piss China off the country just shift money to projects elsewhere around the world. Keep in mind that Australia is not the only country that has iron ore.
Therefore there will be no Japan takeover not unless Australia want to cut ties with their largest customer.
