New footage has appeared providing significant clues as to the cause of the Air India crash. The video shows the RAT (Ram Air Turbine) had deployed before the crash. The RAT is a propeller driven device that automatically drops from under the fuselage to provide emergency power and hydraulics in the case of a Dual Engine Failure, Electrical Failure or Hydraulic Failure. It also makes a distinct noise when operating similar to a propeller driven aircraft. This can be clearly heard in the video as the aircraft passes the camera so there is no doubt it had deployed. Of course the cause of the crash is speculation until the all the investigations are completed in the weeks and months ahead but at this time Dual Engine Failure would seem to be at the top of the possibility list. How to to explain the almost unheard of event of a Dual Engine Failure is another matter.
