I refer to population growth coupled with wealth growth. I would suggest that demand for gold has pretty well matched reserve growth. In fact, if you take out approx 500 tonnes sale pa from CB's for the last 10 years you may find that demand is far higher than production.

And, approx 80% of purchased gold never ever sees the market again.
