mw03 - I completely agree - the chocolate should (or would) be manufactured to suit the taste of the average American (or in the case when it goes global again - the local) child.
Considering Hershey, Mars, Reese, Kit Kat & M&M in the top 5 and this is for all adults and children combined I assume.

(there was another that suggested Toblerone was at the top in 2013 article).

I doubt that a dark chocolate one would go down well with American kids.
And it would (I assume) be more expensive to manufacture a higher quality chocolate??
At the same time if they happen (to ever) to decide to attack the European market - I'm guessing they might have to either beat Kinder by price or match the quality.
The adults - who are the ones reviewing the chocolates are very much entitled to give an opinion (as I personally like the Kinder taste a bit more than the Yowie), but it's the kid that's going to eat it and want it/play with the toy.
Of course if it's the parent (controlling the spending) that refuses to buy the child a Yowie based of their own personal dislike for the taste of the chocolate then it's a problem.
What I CAN'T find is the top 10 popular chocolates/candy
Interesting this article talks about Halloween which you think would be purchase of small (i.e. 3.5oz of less - as classified by IRI, a Chicago-based market research firm) ones of kids.
Each of the 10 best-selling chocolate brands is owned by either Hershey (HSY) or Mars but it doesn't actually search what is sold in the weeks leading up to Halloween.....
