There is environmental threat, although quite low. If there is no threat, (prefer to use terminology of risk) Lynas would not require an effluent licence.
radiation threat in my opinion and most sane/educated persons lies somewhere around insignificant to very low.
The environmental risk in my professional opinion is comparable to that of a primary wastewater treatment plant.
I don't need any nit pickers in this reply as there are differences, I know, especially around biological contamination from wwtp, but I refer to parameters such as pH, BOD, COD and and heavy metals which usually have the same licence conditions for similar discharge locations.
Maybe Jan Johnson and Goofy will be unhappy that I didn't spell out the acronyms. :) lol
