The integration of computer databases with wireless mobile applications is now possible when MobiPod software is used.

MobiPod enables mobile phone users to back up their phone contacts to a secure web site where they can be managed and regularly synchronised with the phone. In this way, the contact details on the mobile are always current while the master database is kept safe on the web site. If a phone has a flat battery or is lost, the complete contact list with all details can be accessed quickly using another phone and down-loaded if desired to a new handset using the Internet.

The system can be set to automatically back up contact lists at regular intervals daily, weekly or monthly. This is ideal for professionals who add to their contact databases frequently. As mobile phones become more like computers containing a vast amount of vital data, the importance of backing up databases contained in them increases. Even consumers who want the security of knowing valuable details cannot be lost will find MobiPod useful. .

The application allows users to create an always current version of their contacts. It is a ‘set-and-forget’ system that ensures details are backed up and synchronised. New developments for MobiPod enable users to up-load photographs taken with mobile cameras to their MobiPod database on the web. This overcomes problems of limited memory capacity of mobile phones. .

This technology is deployed using the GPRS data channel on GSM networks. The MobiServer is the brains behind the system, translating information into a form the mobile handset can recognise. A secure honeycomb database protects all data from everyone except those with a verifiable right of access. MobiPod is part of the MobiData suite of products which includes MobiAV anti virus protection, MobiChat instant messaging and MobiGuard security that disables a mobile phone if it’s stolen. .

At present, there are more than 1 billion mobile phones connected to GSM networks worldwide which provides a lot of scope for this innovative technology. MobiPod is a ‘white box’ product that allows resellers to brand and sell it as their own. Marketing will be predominantly through telcos, technology providers and insurance companies. .
