    Open pit mining is significantly cheaper then underground especially at shallow depths whether they chasing veins or not. That's why MNE looked at this option in the first place.

    What I am saying is that this option will be revisited in the future but for now they want higher grades in the short term to increase early cash flow. Open cut will have taken longer initially to remove the overburden. Safety is an important consideration but, IMO, it is not the only one.

    Can anyone tell me how deep these two tunnels are below the surface. From scaling the lengths they look to be only 20 to 30 metres below (very rough calculation).
