    There is a major aquifer just above the reservoir and it is related to a major erosional unconformity, so the aquifer may be in commmunication with the reservoir.

    As oil is lighter than water, so if there was an oil pool, the well would have produced oil. It did not.

    Finding a subtle trap will require very good seismic (real 3d) or lots of drilling

    To say the 200 ml of oil (less than a tea cup) constitutes a discovery is drawing a very long bow. In a basin with no recorded hydrocarbon, this well would be something to get very excited about. However this basin has a working hydrocarbon system and these rocks are known to contain oil.

    Carbonate rocks have more than one porosity system unlike a sandstone reservoir, so this oil could have come from a
    sealed vug and have been liberated by the perforation charges.

    Good on Neil for having a go, but looking for subtle traps is not for the faint hearted.
