You are correct dargie. I speak with analysts, brokers, guys I know in banks. It is really scary how little knowledge most of them have and how very little of their own money is ever put to the test. Same with fund managers. They often have no money on the line themselves.
With a stock like BBI, it is best to suss out info from places like Hot Copper and then use what you have learnt as the basis to do some research.
