agree....Judith was a tired project....10 years ago maybe, but things change....the dynamics of supply/demand from Bass Strait is clearly laid out. One could say "bring the gas from WA"...oh, by truckloads of "swap and go" bottles??!!
Any plan to bring gas across would no doubt have a lead time of 5 to 10 years in order to plan and build new infrastructure....in the meantime, two plants, being Longford and Orbost, need to justify the billions spent on them, and, also have the daunting prospect of guaranteeing supply for 10 years or longer. Bass Strait is in decline and is reaching a critical juncture.
The failure of the Dory prospect would have been a deep blow, given the high hopes, and...120 million dollars spent.....for nil return !! That alone, illustrates how Judith could represent value to its neighbours, knowing there is already gas down there.
Why arent they beating down the door to get it?? fact is....we dont know what happens behind closed doors. No doubt, EMP's board issues are a problem, and need to be resolves quickly, but at the moment, it could be merely a case of nobody wanting to be the first bidder?.
I'm certain it will happen at some point, the options available in the Bass Strait are simply too limited to risk missing this one, when it is basically a bolt on addition.
As well as the options i mentioned previously, it could also be worth considering other parties being interested too. For example, a completely unrelated party with a good grip on commodity trading, could see Judith as an opportune trading scenario.....do the deal quickly with EMP, for a cash deposit, and future payments. The party then waves the goods in front of the hungry players, and plays them in an auction, taking the upside in consideration for the risk..........just a thought........
Nobody really likes to be the first bidder, but nobody likes to be late, and miss out......its the first bid that sets the pace, and puts an open and clear price up for consideration
