Secret discussions between Australia, UK and USA had been going on for months and Morrison "says" he told France back in July (after secret discussions had started) that the french submarine may not be suitable. He clearly was not bringing the french onboard and allowing them to reconsider the options. The French could easily have said they could save us a sheet load of time and money by not modifying the subs to diesel and retain the existing nuclear propulsion. We could have had french nuclear subs a lot earlier than the diesels and a hell of a lot earlier than some yet to be announced sub.
Biden was right.................it was handled in a clumsy undiplomatic way. USA was also in error by just assuming Australia would be managing this in a less ham fisted way.
