Wow - you really don't remember that era at all, do you? As well as News Corp (the single biggest media conglomerate in Australia, lest we forget), they also had the backing* of the very deep-pocketed folks of the IPA, a concerted propaganda campaign by the mining industry, and the Business Council of Australia. Oh, and most of the Fairfax and ABC coverage went pro-LNP in the lead-up to the 2013 election as well.

* Not sure if "backing" is really the right term for a group that keeps the LNP's collective 'nads in their vault, but it'll do.
