News Corporation is understood to be cutting jobs at its Australian newspapers, as Rupert Murdoch's media conglomerate searches for $40 million in cost cuts by June 30.
The company quietly began cutting local editorial staff at the end of last year - around 40 people are believed to have left.
But, sources said more staff have been tapped in recent weeks, with more in the firing line.
It remains unclear how many editorial jobs will be axed, but it's believed sub-editors, graphics and photographic staff could be among those targeted for redundancy.
Sources said News Corp may address staff on Tuesday afternoon and there is still a lot of heavy lifting to do to hit the $40 million savings targe
